Cap Space and Roster Requirements For Each Team
By Keith Van Wagner
Special to gzl-football.com

It's time for free agency and planning for the draft. And it's also time to try to navigate the cap. There's a big disparity between the cap room of individual teams. The Eagles and Bears, for example, both have over $34M to spend (how is that even possible?) while the Titans and Falcons have just over a million each in cap space. That's cutting it close!

But the Titans only need (as in meeting their roster requirements) two players to get their roster legal. So they have about 700K to spend on two guys, at least currently. The Falcons on the other hand have 5 spots to fill - an average of 300K per player. That's a bit harder. Meanwhile, even though the Eagles and Bears have so much cap room, they need between them 17 players. The Eagles can spend an average of 4.87M per player, while the Bears can manage 3.45M each. The average for each time to spend on roster spots open is 2.65M.

Of course teams will be dropping players, and filling holes through the draft, making trades and all of those sorts of things. But as of right now, here are the way things stand for each team. Below is a team's number of roster slots left, total cap, and then finally average amount to spend per player. Sorry the table is a little hard to read, but you get the idea.
