2020 Rookie of the Year Tracker (Week 5)
By Keith Van Wagner
Special to gzl-football.com

The 2020 season is in full swing and itís time to check in on our Rookie class to see who is contributing and who isnít. Some players look good on tape or in the weight room, but you canít really judge a young player until you see them in action. We are now 5 weeks into the new campaign and there are already some rookies who are pulling away from the rest of the pack.

So far some of the big first rounders havenít produced, while some performers have defied their draft position. Still with less than a third of the season left, a lot can change.

The big story so far of the rookie class has been the stellar play of Seattleís HB Jonathan Cortez. Cortez has already registered a pair of 100 yard games and hasnít had a game yet rushing for under 86 yards. He also leads all rookies in kickoff returns. First rounder Latavius Murray isnít far behind Cortez, but no one comes close to Cortezís 5.9 average. Missing from the Top 10 is first pick overall Ezekiel Elliott who is currently injured. Still, Elliott has only managed 109 yards in two games with a 3.6 avg before getting hurt. Second rounder Pharoh Cooper makes the list and has played well in the first 4 games, but then had a monster 221 yard, 3 TD performance against Seattle in Week 5. Top 5 pick Armani Chance of Seattle so far has been outperformed by fellow rookie Tashaun Leonard, a 5th rounder. Chanceís injury doesnít help much. Seattle has three players who crack the top 10.
