2020 Rookie of the Year Tracker (Week 12)
By Keith Van Wagner
Special to gzl-football.com

The 2020 season is coming down the stretch and itís time to check in on our Rookie class to see who is contributing and who isnít. Some players look good on tape or in the weight room, but you canít really judge a young player until you see them in action. We are 12 weeks into the 2020 season and it looks like the Rookie of the Year award is very much in dispute.

The two big HBs of the season are still duking it out. The surprise candidate Jonathan Cortez, a 3rd rounder, has impressed and hasnít shown any signs of slowing down. The Seahawk workhorse has averaged 20 carries a game with a 5.1 average. Not only does he lead all rookie runners in yardage, but he leads the whole league in all-purpose yards, thanks to his 26.8 avg on kickoff returns. Nipping at his heels in rushing yards is Latavius Murray, the first rounder. Still, given Cortezís total game, itíll be hard for Murray to pass him.

Defensively, Top 10 pick Reggie Ragland has dominated and is currently leading all rookies in tackles, is tied for 5th in sacks and tied for first in interceptions. Heís been all over the field! DT Julius Walker, a 2nd rounder out of Baylor has snuck in the Top 5 after recording 3 sacks in the last 2 games and averaging 1 sack a game over the past 5 games. Currently he leads all rookies in sacks, but has several other defenders right behind him.

We will check back in at the end of the season to crown our 2020 Rookie of the Year!
